Selection, Placement, and Soil Preparation
Plant selection starts with sun exposure, moisture, and how much maintenance you want long term. Shade under large trees needs a different plant palette than open, west-facing beds along a driveway.
Placement accounts for mature height and width, sightlines from the street and windows, and clearance for walks and mowers. Crowding plants for an instant full look usually creates thinning and corrective pruning later.
Soil preparation may include amending planting holes, correcting bed grade, and clearing failed plants before new material goes in. When beds also need shaping or cleanup, shrub trimming or landscape cleanups can be sequenced ahead of install.
